System-Based Changes Enhance Throughput and Meet Increased Demand

The U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) recently released its latest issue of the Health Care Innovations Exchange. One of the innovations featured in the issue, titled Hospital System-Based Changes Enhance Throughput and Meet Increased Demand Without Adding New Facilities, examines an organization that instituted system-wide changes designed to meet increasing demand for services at its three health care facilities.

The program integrated new systems in order to increase the efficiency and timeliness of key processes, including bed turnaround and patient discharge, transport, and placement. Representatives from the organization’s care management department were part of the implementation team.
