Tempers Flare at Healthcare Summit

Posted on: 2/25/2010

Tempers flared during today's health care summit as Congressional leaders on both sides of the issue debated the right solution to the United States' healthcare problems. It was President Obama's hope that the bipartisan meeting would re-energize the discussion on health care reform.

According to msnbc.com, the six-hour meeting was "essentially a condensed, one-day version of the entire past year of debate over the nation's health care crisis, with all its heat, complexity and detail..."

At the conclusion of the summit, both sides remained entrenched in their positions on the controversial issue, leaving the president with essentially two options:

  • Attempt to pass a comprehensive plan without GOP support, by using Senate budget reconciliation rules that would disallow filibusters
  • Develop a more modest bill that would simply remedy some of the ills in the current system
