CMS Releases Article on Vulnerabilities Identified Through the RAC Demo
Posted on: 7/14/2010
On Monday, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released a special edition MLN Matters article designed to provide education regarding vulnerabilities identified through the RAC demonstration. According to CMS, the article is “the first in a series of articles that will disseminate information on RAC high dollar improper payment vulnerabilities.”
Two of the high risk vulnerabilities identified during the RAC demonstration include: provider non-compliance with timely submission of requested medical documentation; and insufficient documentation that did not justify that the services billed were covered, medically necessary, or correctly coded.

MLN Matters is a series of national articles designed to inform the physician, provider, and supplier community about the latest changes to the Medicare Program. According to the CMS website, articles are “prepared in consultation with clinicians, billing experts, and CMS subject matter experts and are tailored in content and language to the specific provider type(s) who are affected by a particular Medicare change.”
Watch the MLN Matters webpage for more installments in the RAC vulnerabilities series and other relevant articles.
