Erin Boyd, MD, MBA, CHCQM-PhysAdv Associate CMO, Physician Advisory Services
Dr. Boyd received her medical degree from the University of Michigan in 2008 and finished her internal medicine training at UC-Davis in 2013. For the past ten years, Dr. Boyd has served as a hospitalist medical director, led utilization committees, and worked collaboratively with several independent review organizations to help facilitate appeal of payer denials for numerous hospital systems.
Melissa Buchner-Mehling, MD, CHCQM-PhysAdv
Associate CMO, Physician Advisory Services
Dr. Buchner-Mehling received her medical degree from University of Minnesota in 2001, and finished her internal medicine residency in 2004. She began practicing as a hospitalist, was active in many committees, and became a physician advisor in 2016. Dr. Buchner-Mehling has also been an ICDlO Physician Champion and CDI Physician Champion, and volunteered for medical missions in Honduras and Kenya.
Objectives:
- Review how commercial insurance companies determine medical necessity as compared to Part A/B Medicare
- Using this knowledge, review how to work denials for concurrent authorization up front to avoid rework and appeals later
- Regulatory Updates on IPPS and OPPS
