Register on the above link.

June 17, 2023 from 10am to 12n PST
Marriott Riverside
Speaker:
Pablo (PAUL) Arias, RN, BSN, MIS, EJD, CMAC

For years hospitals have been held liable for a loss of payment due to a lack of medical necessity that demonstrated why a patient needed an admission to an acute level of care. Hospitals have struggled devising programs to ensure payment and most efforts were concentrated on the back end. Denial prevention begins at the point of entry.

Course Objectives:

  1. At the end of this presentation, the attendee should be able to:
  2. Define the basis of medical necessity and its history.
  3. Explore how Medicare defines medical necessity.
  4. Explain how the role of case management functions fit within the prevention of denials
  5. Briefly explain the role of the emergency department case manager in the preemptive prevention of denials.
  6. Be able to relate the evolution of evidence-based medical criteria.
