National Board for Case Management

The National Board for Case Management (NBCM) is the governing body for the Accredited Case Manager (ACM) Certification and Case Management Administrator Certification (CMAC) programs.

The NBCM’s responsibilities include: developing and approving ACMA Certification content, testing and eligibility policies; conducting eligibility reviews; reviewing applicant certification appeals and rendering decisions; and recommending strategies or developments for the ACM Certification. These policies are contained in the NBCM Policy Manual and are updated periodically.

Accredited Case Manager Non-Disciplinary Appeals

An applicant or certified certificants can appeal a decision related to their exam application or certification status. Appeal requests that meet the National Board for Case Management (NBCM) guidelines can be submitted via the appeal form.

Examples of decisions that can be appealed include but not limited to:
- Denial of Exam Eligibility
- Denial of Recertification Application
- Exam Results*

*Failure of the examination, on its own, is not a circumstance for review and appeal. Substantial information must be provided as part of the written appeal to indicate that an unfair or adverse circumstance or condition led to failure of the examination. Examination scores cannot be changed for an individual.

Applicants submitting an appeal for a denial of recertification application or exam eligibility request must fall within the timeline below:

Timeline for recertification appeals:
181 – 365 days past the recertification term expiration date Can submit an appeal to NBCM. May also be subject to a $200.00 reinstatement fee along with recertification fee
366+ days past the recertification term expiration date Cannot submit an appeal; must re-test


Timeline for eligibility appeals:
91 – 150 days past exam eligibility period expiration date Can submit an appeal to NBCM
151+ days past exam eligibility period expiration date Cannot submit an appeal; must re-purchase FULL exam
